As we celebrate the value of work this Labor Day weekend, let's not forget what's truly important during this three-day holiday break: shopping.

Head toward Loveland today through Monday for the Outlets at Loveland's annual Labor Day Weekend Sidewalk Sale. You'll find deals up to 75 percent off and get exercise strolling around the more than 50 outlet stores, including Ann Taylor, Dress Barn, Geoffrey Beene, Gymboree, Izod and J. Crew. And, if you go today from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., you'll also find family entertainment, with free face painting and animal balloons for the kids.

Camping lovers might want to head another direction, toward the Outlets at Castle Rock, where the Coleman Factory Outlet is holding a huge Truck Load Sale through Monday. Great deals on tents, sleeping bags, stoves, lanterns and lots of other camping equipment await.

For those still wanting to add to their summer wardrobes before packing them away, there are plenty of end-of-season sales out there. At Pine Creek Clothing Co., every summer-clearance item in the high-end store has been marked down from $9.99 to $19.99 (regularly priced: $58 to $298). 1099 S. Gaylord St., 303-733-4848.

Plus-size women can pad their summer wardrobes with stylish apparel at the Ample Boutique's summer sale this weekend through Sept. 30. All summer clothes, sizes 1X to 10X, are marked 25- to 75-percent off. 3890 Kipling St., Wheat Ridge, 303-420-0067.

At Puttin' on the Ritz, summer clothes and some new fall items are buy-one-get-one-free through the holiday weekend. The sale at the secondhand boutique even includes some "new-with-tags" items. 1446 S. Colorado Blvd., 303-759-4398.

Packed with a huge selection of new fall yarns, I Love Knitting will knock all prices down at least 10 percent today, with some yarns selling at 40 percent off. 600 S. Holly St., 303-399-5648.

And you will find all Simply Amish furniture 25-percent off this weekend only at Modern Bungalow. 2594 S. Colorado Blvd., 303-300-3332.

After all of that Labor Day weekend shopping, you can check out the Second Time Shop, which will launch its big summer clearance event on Tuesday. Many designer-item prices will be slashed through Sept. 13. Also on that final day, the second-hand store, which supports the Junior League of Denver, will hold its Backroom Bonanza. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and give shoppers a first chance at fall items yet to be displayed. 5042 E. Hampden Ave., 303-789-4055.

Book lovers get set. The Friends of the Arapahoe Library District spent the summer hand-sorting 40,000 quality books to offer to the public at bargain prices. Hardbacks, oversize paperbacks and audio books are $2. Regular paperbacks and videos are 50 cents. The event will kick off with a private preview party for Friends of the Library from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Koelbel Library. The public sale runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Sept. 6, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 7, which is bag day (fill a supplied bag for $6). 5955 S. Holly St., 303-542-7279

I have found that we can avoid the chaos and store hopping (spending gas $$$'s) by shopping the labor day deals at bargains website like unodeals.com. I have saved money, saved gas by free shipping and did not have pay state tax on most purchases.
