Regional scene: Three golfers qualify for U.S. Senior Open

Centennial resident Audie Dean shot 73 at the challenging Colorado Golf Club in Parker to earn the first of three available qualifying spots in the 2008 U.S. Senior Open Championship.
The three qualifiers will play in the U.S. Senior Open July 28-
August 3 at Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs.
Dean, who has been working part time as a caddie at Colorado Golf Club during the past year, received the USGA Low Qualifying medal on Monday.
Colorado Springs resident David Delich, who won the Colorado Golf Association's CGA Senior Match Play Championship in 2007, earned the second spot and the USGA Low Amateur medal.
In a two-way playoff at 75, former PGA Tour pro Jeff Klein of Scottsbluff, Neb., birdied the first playoff hole to earn the final qualifying position.
Golden amateur Scott Radcliffe became the first alternate, and Colorado Springs golfer John Olive earned the second- alternate position.
* Douglas County High School athlete Cody Kent took medalist honors with a two-round 139 at Lake Valley Golf Club in Niwot to qualify for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship later this month.
Rock Canyon High School athlete Brendan Connolly (142) and Fairview High School athlete Brennan Dolan (142) also took qualifying berths.
NEBRASKAN COMMITS Melissa MacFarlane, a 6-foot-7 post player from Millard North High School in Omaha, has committed to sign a national letter-of-
intent this fall with the University of Colorado women's basketball team.
* Anna Trinidad, a former All-American at Wisconsin, was hired as an assistant swimming coach at the University of Denver.
* Air Force second baseman Nathan Carter was named to the Ping!Baseball 2008 All-Freshman third team.
MAMMOTH PICKS Defenseman Bruce Murray and forward Matt Ward were chosen Monday by the Colorado Mammoth in the National Lacrosse League dispersal draft of former Arizona Sting players.
COOPRIDER WINS Chris Cooprider of Denver advanced to today's semifinals in the Rocky Mountain Boys 18 tennis tournament at Gates Tennis Center, winning 6-0, 6-4 against John Kelly, of Owing Mills, Md.
Alex Rovello (Portland, Ore.), Andy Nguyen (Phoenix) and Bryan Welnetz (Laredo, Texas) also advanced to the semifinals.
