REGIONAL SCENE: Tolan, Symons gain final; Tait victorious

University of Colorado athletes and ThunderRidge High School graduates Derek Tolan and Luke Symons qualified for Friday's 36-hole final in the Colorado Golf Association Match Play Championship at Plum Creek Golf and Country Club in Castle Rock.
Tolan defeated Lakewood resident Steve Irwin 4 and 3 in Thursday's semifinals.
Symons advanced by winning 3 and 2 over former CU teammate Patrick Grady in his semifinal match.
* Overcoming a three-shot deficit, Mullen High School graduate Ashley Tait rallied to win the Colorado Women's Golf Association Stroke Play Championship at Buffalo Run Golf Course in Commerce City.
Tait totaled a three-round 213, winning by one shot over University of Denver golfer Dawn Shockley.
* Shockley was one of four qualifiers Monday at a U.S. Women's Amateur sectional qualifier at Colorado Golf Club in Parker.
Australian golfer Stacey Keating (72) took medalist honors, followed by Nicole Ferrero (Lodi, Calif., 76), Shockley (77), and Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill., 77).
ON THE MOVE The University of Denver and Air Force Academy men's lacrosse programs will move to the Eastern College Athletic Conference from the Great Western Lacrosse League, beginning in the 2009-10 season.
The move follows a national realignment of collegiate lacrosse conferences after the Big East and Northeast conferences decided to add the sport.
* Alameda High School graduate Kirk Crawford has been hired as an assistant women's basketball coach at the Air Force Academy.
RITZENHEIN RUN Former CU athlete Dathan Ritzenhein will run the New York Half-Marathon on July 27, his final tuneup before the Beijing Olympics marathon.
Boulder runner James Carney also will compete in the men's race. Boulder runner Colleen De Reuck and former Adams State athlete Zoila Gomez are set to run in the women's field.
WILPOLT HONORED Broomfield native Mike Wilpolt has been named the coach of the year by the Arena Football League.
The former Mesa State athlete led the Cleveland Gladiators to the 9-7 record.
SKY SOX FALL Justin Knoedler's two-run, eighth-inning double helped power the Sacramento River Cats to a 5-2 win against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in a Pacific Coast League game in West Sacramento, Calif.
